Richard Fuller was re-elected as Conservative MP for Bedfordshire North East in 2019 with a majority of 24,283. Previously he had served as the Conservative MP for Bedford between 2010 and 2017, having lost his seat to Labour by 780 votes in 2017.
The constituency of North East Bedfordshire is a largely rural constituency that covers the northern third of Bedfordshire and includes the small towns of Biggleswade and Sandy, the latter being the headquarters of the RSPB. Median incomes in this part of England are well above the national average, and this part of Bedfordshire has long been safe Conservative territory, held comfortably by the Party since the seats initial creation in 1997.
Fuller was appointed as Economic Secretary to the Treasury in July 2022. He served in the role under Rishi Sunak became prime minister in October 2022.
Born in 1962, Fuller was educated at Oxford University, and subsequently completed an MBA at the prestigious Harvard Business School in America.
Prior to being elected to Parliament, Fuller had a career in international business and has worked across the world.  He was formerly a venture capitalist, being a partner in the firm Investcorp. He also was the former Executive Chairman of the software firm, Impero.
In his younger days, Fuller was a former National Chairman of the Young Conservatives.  He supported Leave in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Fuller is a member of the Tory Reform Group, and is generally regarded to sit on the moderate wing of the party. He has been critical in the past of Immigration Detention centres.
