Biography:

Paula Sherriff was elected as Labour MP for Dewsbury on May 7th 2015 with 22406 votes, taking 41.8% of the vote.

Paula was born near Glasgow in 1975 and moved to Yorkshire nearly 25 years ago.

Having worked for nearly ten years in a Victim Support role, Paula received a national commendation in recognition of the work undertaken by her with victims of child abuse. After a successful career in the Police, Paula moved to the NHS where she worked on the frontline within the Health Service until being elected MP for Dewsbury constituency.

Paula was elected to Wakefield District Council in 2012. Her proudest achievement was the successful campaign to restore Pontefract Hospital’s 24-hour A&E. Also as Chair of a local Business Forum, Paula has a track record of delivering infrastructure improvements and promoting town centre regeneration.
