Patricia Gibson was first elected as the SNP MP for North Ayrshire and Arran in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 8,521.
The constituency of North Ayrshire contains the settlement known of the 3 Towns (Ardrossan, Saltcoats, and Stevenson) on the east shore of the Firth of Clyde, as well as the islands of Arran and Cumbrae. Inland the seat has some Glasgow commuter areas, as well as a large presence for the energy sector including 2 nuclear power stations and a large windfarm. Tourism is also an important part of the local economy.
In the 1960s and 1970s, this seat was once represented by the former soldier, Sir Fitzroy Maclean, rumoured to be the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s famous character, James Bond.  It was gained off the Labour Party by the SNP in 2015.
Patricia Gibson is the SNP’s Spokesperson at Westminster for housing, communities and local government. She was previously the SNPs Consumer Affairs Spokesperson.
Born in 1968, Gibson was educated at Glasgow University and worked as an English teacher for twenty years before being elected to Westminster. She served on Glasgow City Council between 2007 and 2012.
Gibson is married to Kenneth Gibson, who is a Scottish National Party Member of the Scottish Parliament.
In 2021, an SNP staffer made an allegation of sexual harassment against Patricia Gibson. Gibson has strongly denied the claims, and has claimed that the accusations were “malicious” and “without any foundation”
At Westminster she is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Baby Loss, Cats, Consumer Protection, and Green Deal Mis-selling.
