Pat Doherty

Biography:

Pat Doherty was re-elected MP for West Tyrone on May 7th 2015 with 16807 votes, taking 43.5% of the vote.

Pat Doherty was born in Glasgow of Irish emigrant parents, both originally from Donegal. He moved back to live in Donegal in April 1968. He is married to Mary and they have five children.

He has been an Assembly member for West Tyrone from 1998 to 2012 and was Chair of the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee in the Assembly until Peter Mandelson collapsed the institutions on February 11th. Pat Doherty was elected MP for West Tyrone in the 2001 Westminster Elections.

He has stood as a candidate in the constituency of Donegal North East in 1989 and in the Connacht/Ulster constituency in the EU elections in 1989 and 1994.

He served as Sinn Féin Vice-President from 1988 to 2009. He headed the Sinn Féin delegation to the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation, organised by the Dublin government following the IRA cessation of August 1994.
