Huddleston, Nigel

Nigel Huddleston was first elected as the Conservative MP for Mid Worcestershire in 2015 being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 28,018.

The constituency of mid Worcestershire is a narrow constituency that spreads in a north westerly direction from the bottom left hand corner of the county.  It contains the towns of Evesham and Droitwich Spa, alongside a number of small villages. Home to a large number of West Midlands commuters, this seat has income levels above the national average.  This area of England has long been very safe Conservative territory, and two out of three voters here backed the party in the 2019 General Election.   Three fifths of the electorate backed Brexit in the 2016 EU referendum.

Huddleston was appointed  Minister of State in the Department for Business and Trade in February 2023.  In October 2022 he was made a Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for International Trade, in addition to his role as a Government Whip (Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury)

He previously served as Under Secretary of State for Sport, Tourism and Heritage, and as a Whip between 2019 and 2020.

Born in 1970, Huddleston studied Politics and Economics at Oxford University.  Prior to being elected to Parliament, he worked as a Management Consultant for Deloitte and Arthur Andersen.  He was then employed as the Industry Head of Travel for Google from 2011.

Huddleston was a councillor on St Albans Borough Council between 2011 and 2014.  He was selected at the Conservative candidate for Mid Worcestershire in an Open Primary, where both Conservative and non-Conservative supporters were able to attend and vote.

Nigel Huddleston is generally regarded to be on the left of the Conservative Party.  He supported Remain in the 2016 EU referendum and is a member of the moderate Tory Reform Group.

He backed Sajid Javid in the 2019 Conservative Party leadership election.

Huddleston is married with two children.
