Biography
Nick Hurd was elected MP for Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner in May 2010 with a majority of 19,060.
Nick Hurd was elected as the Member of Parliament for Ruislip-Northwood in May 2005. He is Shadow Minister for Charities, Social Enterprise and Volunteering
Since entering Parliament, Nick has specialised in environmental issues, serving on the Environment Audit Committee; the Board of the Conservative Party's Quality of Life Policy Commission and both Parliamentary Committees that scrutinised the Climate Change Bill.
In 2007, Nick successfully took through Parliament a Private Members Bill, the Sustainable Communities Act, which was supported by over ninety national organisations. He was awarded the PRESEG Parliamentarian of the Year Award in 2007 in recognition of his work on the Act.
Nick served as an Opposition Whip and member of the Shadow teams for Justice, Communities, and Local Government from 2007 to 2008.
Nick represents the fourth successive generation of his family to serve as an MP. He was born in 1962 and is a graduate of Oxford University where he read Classics. Before entering politics he developed a business career over 18 years which gave him the experience of running his own business and representing a British bank in Brazil (1995-1999).
He is Vice chairman of the Combined Heat and Power Association and Non Executive Director of Sancroft, a corporate responsibility consultancy. He has been a Trustee of the Greenhouse Schools charity and is currently a Governor of Coteford Junior School and Trustee of the Hillingdon Partnership Trust. In 2006 he took a week out of Parliament time to work as a volunteer with the Living Well Trust; a community centre on the Raffles Estate in Carlisle.
