Mary Glindon was first elected as the Labour MP for North Tyneside in 2010 being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 9,561.
The constituency of North Tyneside spreads out from the north east suburbs of Newcastle and includes Wallsend. It is a former mining and ship-building area and has long been a safe Labour seat.
Mary Glindon currently serves as an Opposition Whip.
Glindon supported Owen Smith in his 2016 challenge against Jeremy Corbyn as Labour Leader. She supported Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour Party leadership election.
Born in 1957, Glindon grew up in Newcastle and was educated at Newcastle Polytechnic.  She worked as an admin officer for the Department of Work and Pensions, and ran North Shield’s People’s Centre before being elected to Parliament.
Mary Glindon was previously a Councillor on North Tyneside Council between 1995 and 2010, and her husband, Ray, remains a councillor on North Tyneside Council.
A practising Roman Catholic, Glindon is opposed to abortion, and also previously opposed same sex marriage when the Same Sex Couples Act came before Parliament in 2013,
At Westminster, Glindon is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Hadrians Wall, Healthy Homes and Buildings, Muscular Dystrophy, Obesity, Kurdistan, and Parkinson’s Disease. She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Fire Safety, Pro Life, Vaping, Disability, and Religious Education.
