Alistair Darling addresses the Commons on income tax
"My government will seek a consensus on changes to the law on terrorism so that the police and other agencies have the powers they need to protect the public, whilst preserving essential rights and liberties."
The bill is part of wide reaching measures to improve the detection and policing of terrorism. It will bring in post-charge questioning and could introduce the use of intercept evidence. It backs increasing the period for detention without trial to 56 days.
