Lady Sylvia Eileen Hermon

Biography

Lady Sylvia Hermon was re-elected MP for North Down in May 2010 with a majority of 14,364.

She was born on a farm in County Tyrone, and educated at Dungannon High School for Girls between 1967 and 1974

She attended Aberystwyth University 1974-1978 where she was top prize-winner in each year, graduating with a First Class Honours Degree in Law.

She then became law lecturer at Queen's University Belfast 1978-1988, specialising in European Community Law, Constitutional Law and International Law.

She has been Member of Parliament for North Down since 2001; the first woman to be returned to Westminster from Northern Ireland in almost 30 years.

Hobbies: Ornithology, swimming and fitness training, proof-reading and letter writing.
