Cummins, Judith

Judith Cummins was first elected as the Labour MP for Bradford South since 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 2,346.

The Bradford South constituency has long been a Labour seat, being held by the party continuously ever since the Second World War.   It contains the areas of Tong, Great Horton, Queensbury, and Wibsey, itself said to be one of the highest urban villages in England.  It is the least ethnically diverse of the three Bradford seats.

Born in 1967, Cummins studied at Leeds University and worked as a benefits advisor, and in further education, before being elected to Parliament.  She later attended Ruskin college at Oxford.

Cummins previously served on Bradford City Council, and then on Leeds City Council between 2012 and 2016.

A former Opposition Whip, Cummins supported Owen Smith in his 2016 challenge to then Labour Leader, Jeremy Corbyn.  She backed Sir Keir Starmer in the 2020 Labour leadership election.

Judith Cummins is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Beauty, Aesthetics and Wellbeing; Rugby League. She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Indonesia; Japan; Dementia; Dentistry and Oral Heath; Left Behind Neighbourhoods; Policing and Security; Social Mobility; Thalassaemia; and Transport Across the North.

Cummins is married with two children.  She employs her husband as a Senior Researcher.
