Ian Colin Lucas
Biography
Ian Lucas was re-elected MP for Wrexham in May 2010 with a majority of 3,658.
Ian was born in 1960, the second son of Colin and Alice Lucas, in Gateshead, County Durham. His father worked all his life as a process engineer in a local factory apart from serving in the army from 1942 -1947. His mother was a housewife who sometimes worked as a cleaner in a local children's home.
Ian studied law at New College, Oxford.
Ian qualified as a solicitor in London in 1985 and moved to Wrexham the following year, when he began to specialise in criminal law and personal injury claims. He worked on Merseyside and saw at first hand the appalling problems created by social deprivation and drugs.
Ian joined joined the Labour Party in 1986. He has held many local party positions, including Chair of Wrexham Labour Party. He ran a solicitor's office in Wrexham from 1989 until 1992, when he helped organise a form of industrial action among the town's solicitors, because of concern over reduced provision of Legal Aid.
In the 1997 General Election, Ian stood as Labour Candidate in the rural Tory heartland seat of North Shropshire and lost the seat narrowly.
In 2001 Ian was very proud to be elected as Member of Parliament for Wrexham. My particular interests are Home Affairs, the Environment and Overseas Development, especially the work of the U.N.
I have been married to Norah since 1986. We have 2 children and live in Wrexham. Norah has taught music in local schools since 1986.
