Holly Walker-Lynch was first elected as the Labour MP for Halifax in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 2,569.
The West Yorkshire constituency of Halifax is found in the Pennines and covers the larger form textile town of Halifax and the nearby town of Sowerby Bridge. This is an ethnically diverse seat with a strong Asian community.  Although the Conservatives briefly won Halifax between 1955 and 1964, and between 1983 and 1987, Halifax has generally been a Labour seat ever since the Second World War.
Holly Lynch is a shadow home affairs spokesperson on the Labour front bench. She was previously an Opposition spokesperson on the environment under Jeremy Corbyn before stepping down to take maternity leave.
Lynch was born in Halifax in 1986 and grew up in Northowram. She attended Brighouse High School and graduated from Lancaster University.  She worked for a local small business involved in exporting, and for the fast food company, Subway, before becoming an MP at the age of 29.
Lynch supported Jess Phillips in the 2020 Labour leadership election.
She enjoys rugby having played for Lancaster University and then for the Halifax Vandals.
Holly Lynch is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Fairtrade. She is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Population, Development and Reproductive Health; and the British Museum.
