Biography:

Henry Bellingham was re-elected MP for North West Norfolk on May 7th 2015 with 24727 votes, taking 52.2% of the vote.

Henry was born in March 1955. He studied Law at Magdalene College, Cambridge. Having graduated in 1977 he was called to the Bar (Middle Temple) where he served as a barrister for 8 years. Prior to being re-elected in 2001, he ran his own consultancy practice specialising in advising firms on inward investment.

Henry married Emma Whiteley in 1993 and they now have a young son, Jamie. Having grown up and made his home in Norfolk he is passionate about issues that affect his constituency, constantly fighting for rural communities, agriculture, the environment and small businesses. He is joint secretary of the Lords and Commons Cricket Club, and outside Westminster enjoys country sports and golf.

Henry was MP for North West Norfolk between 1983 and 1997. A specialist in small businesses, countryside and farming issues, defence and Northern Ireland, he was PPS to Malcolm Rifkind (then Defence and Foreign Secretary) from 1991-97.

In June 2001, he was re-elected as MP for North West Norfolk. In July 2002, he was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Trade & Industry, responsible for representing Industry, Small Business and Construction as part of the Shadow Economic Affairs team. In May 2005, he was appointed as an Opposition Whip. In November 2006, he was appointed Shadow Minister for the Department of Constitutional Affairs.

In June 2007, Henry was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Justice.

He served as a junior minister in the foreign and commonwealth office between May 2010 and September 2012.
