Biography

Greg Knight was re-elected MP for East Yorkshire in May 2010 with a majority of 13,486.

Greg is a qualified solicitor and for ten years he ran his own law practice. He has specialised in IT issues and acted for a large computer software company. He has previous experience of the House of Commons.

His hobbies include music, the arts and driving classic cars. He has written four books, Westminster Words, and the best-sellers Honourable Insults, Parliamentary Sauce and Right Honourable Insults. In 2004 he became a founder member of MP4 - the world's only Parliamentary rock group!

Greg Knight's Experience

Greg was appointed a Government Whip by Margaret Thatcher in 1989 and in 1993 he was promoted to Government Deputy Chief Whip. The same year he was appointed Treasurer of the Royal Household.

In 1995 he was made a Privy Councillor and in 1996 he became Minister of State for Industry, a position he held until the 1997 General Election.

In October 2001, he was appointed Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons. From October 2001 to July 2002, he also served as Frontbench Spokesman on Scotland and Wales. In June 2003, he was appointed a Shadow Minister for Culture, Media & Sport. Between November 2003 and November 2005 he served as a Shadow Minister for Transport. In November 2005, he was made Chairman of the House of Commons Procedure Committee.
