Geraint Davies

Biography

Geraint Davies was elected MP for Swansea West in May 2010 with a majority of 504 votes.

Geraint Davies lives in Swansea West where his mother's family has been for four generations (his father is from Aberystwyth). He returned in 2005 with his wife Vanessa in time to get their three daughters Angharad, Meirian and Eluned into Swansea schools. Geraint is a Governor of Dylan Thomas Community School. In 2005 Geraint was recruited to head up the Environment Agency Wales team to adapt Wales to climate change. He leads an executive of Council Leaders, academics and environmentalists who invest £30million in flood defences each year across Wales. Geraint is Chair of Labour Finance & Industry Group Wales (LFIG)and UK Vice President (President is Neil Kinnock) - developing trade and industry policy for Ministers in Cardiff and Westminster. Geraint heads the Wales group due to his experience in both multi-nationals and starting and running his own small business. He was Council Leader for London's biggest borough (1/3 million population, £0.5bn spend), Chair of Housing for London Boroughs and served as MP 1997-2005. In 2007 Geraint was selected to succeed Alan Williams MP as Labour's Parliamentary candidate for Swansea West.
