Douglas Chapman was elected SNP MP for Dunfermline & West Fife in 2015, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 10,669.
This constituency contains the town of Dunfermline and the smaller town of Rosyth on the West Scottish coast, well known for its Royal Navy Dockyard that closed in the early years of the Twentieth Century. Located along the Firth of Forth, this was a Labour seat that was briefly held by the Lib Dems after a by election between 2006 and 2010. It has been safe SNP territory since 2015.
Douglas Chapman is the SNP spokesperson on Small Business, Enterprise and Innovation.
Chapman previously served as the National Treasurer of the SNP. However he resigned in May 2021, claiming that he was not given enough information to do the job.
Born in 1955, Chapman was educated at Edinburgh Napier University and worked in banking for the TSB Bank before being elected to Parliament. He served on Fife Council from 2007 to 2015.
Chapman, is married with two children. He was one of the first MPs to take a (forbidden) selfie on a House of Commons bench in 2015.
He is Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Catalonia, France, Malta, Russia, Singapore, Freeports, and Town Centres.
