David Rutley was first elected as Conservative MP for Macclesfield in 2010, being reelected in 2019 with a majority of 10,711.
The constituency of Macclesfield is found in the north western corner of Cheshire bordering Greater Manchester.  The constituency contains the town of Macclesfield and a range of rural communities such as Bollington, Disley, Poynton and Prestbury. Containing a large Manchester commuter population, as well as a base for the drugs company, Astra Zenecca, this seat has been held by the Conservatives ever since the First World War.
Rutley was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in October 2022. He previoulsy served as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Work and Pensions, and as government whip between 2017 and 2021.
Born in 1961, Rutley attended the London School of Economics and Harvard Business School.
Before his election to Parliament, David spent most of his career in business and worked as a senior executive in major companies, including Asda (where he ran the Home Shopping and E-Commerce businesses), PepsiCo International, Halifax General Insurance and Barclays.
From 1994-1996, Rutley worked as a Special Adviser at the Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture.
David Rutley is married to Rachel and they have four children. As a mormon, Rutley is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He voted Remain in the 2016 Brexit referendum.
Rutley is a keen mountaineer, and has climbed in mountain ranges across the world. He previously served as Co-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Mountaineering.
He also enjoys fishing and birdwatching.
