DWP: Independent living strategy
Thursday, 27 Mar 2008 16:43
The government is seeking feedback after launching its independent living strategy for disabled people two years ago.
Since July 2006 the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has been implementing its five-year plan to allow disabled people to live with the same dignity and choice as others.
Now it wants feedback from disabled people and is consulting on whether a scrutiny group at the national level or a network of groups at regional and local level is the best way of achieving this.
"Transferring power to those needing support, and joining up services to ensure this happens, changes the way in which support and services are delivered and experienced," prime minister Gordon Brown commented.
"It unlocks opportunities, enables people to participate and contribute, and strengthens our communities. We are committed to a vision of equality for all disabled people by 2025."
The consultation ends on June 28th 2008.
