Home Office: National identity scheme
Thursday, 06 Mar 2008 00:00
A delivery plan for the Home Office's national identity scheme outlines how ID cards will "increase public protection in sensitive areas of our society", home secretary Jacqui Smith says.
The government is currently consulting on the delivery plan for ID cards, which will be introduced from next year.
The plan also sets out the government's justifications for the scheme, which argues the cards will provide a more secure and convenient means of protection against identity fraud, crime, illegal immigration and terrorism.
The consultation ends on June 30th 2008.
