Defra: Ofwat guidance
Thursday, 07 Feb 2008 00:00
The government is consulting on its draft guidance for water industry regulator Ofwat.
Ofwat covers water and sewerage undertakers in England and Wales and, under the Water Industry Act 1991, the government can advise it on social and environmental guidance as part of its wider remit.
"Ofwat has a duty to exercise its powers and duties in a way best calculated to
contribute to the achievement of sustainable development," the consultation paper states.
The government's advice covers environmental sustainability, consumer protection and surface water drainage, as well as water quality and public health.
The consultation period ends on April 30th 2008.
