DIUS: Further education funding transfer

The government is transferring planning and funding responsibility for 16- to 19-year-olds from the Learning and Skills Council to local authorities.
It is also proposing changes to the "post-19 skills landscape" and is consulting on both.
The education and skills bill currently before parliament proposes raising the participation age in education and the government wants to work out the best way of helping town halls achieve this aim.
"Successfully implementing this vision will require clear local leadership in every area. We want local authorities to provide that leadership," the consultation paper says.
The consultation closes on June 9th 2008.
