DCSF: Further education and community cohesion

Monday, 11 Feb 2008 00:00
Further education providers should be active in promoting community cohesion, the Department for Children, Schools and Families believes.

The extent to which this should be the case is up for consultation. The government wants to know the best ways colleges and other further education institutions can help prevent violent extremism.

"Many young people and adults benefit from further education and are able to play more of a leadership role in their families, workplace and communities as a result," further education minister Bill Rammell said.

"Because of this, it is absolutely critical that FE institutions embody these values of openness, free debate and tolerance and promote them through the way they operate."

The consultation ends on May 6th 2008.
