Biography

Chris Huhne was re-elected MP for Eastleigh in May 2010 with a majority of 3,864.

Chris Huhne was the Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary and MP for Eastleigh before the 2010 general election. After the formation of the coalition government he became energy and climate change secretary.

Prior to entering politics Chris was an award-winning economic and financial journalist for the Guardian and Independent and later spent 5 years as a City economist. He has chaired four Liberal Democrat Policy Commissions, including one on public services reform.

He was elected as a member of the European Parliament for the South East in 1999, serving until his election as MP for Eastleigh in May 2005. As an MEP he was the economic spokesman for the pan-European Liberal group and was an advocate and implementer of cross-party coalitions to reform Europe.

He was elected MP for Eastleigh in May 2005. On entering parliament, Chris Huhne served as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury until 2006 when he became Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Chris Huhne was a close runner-up in both the 2006 and 2007 Liberal Democrat leadership elections.
