Byrne Baby Byrne

Biography

Colin Byrne is CEO of Weber Shandwick, a leading UK and international PR consultancy. He has been with the firm since 1995 when he joined the public affairs practice.

Previously Colin was PR manager for the National Farmer's Union, communications director for the International Business Leader's Forum (part of The Prince's Trust), chief press officer for the Labour party and deputy to then Labour communications director Peter Mandelson, and held posts in the public, private and non profit sectors as a press officer.

He does pro bono work for WarChild and The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, has popped up in four successive annual GQ magazine surveys of influential British blokes, and is a board member of Editorial Intelligence.

Colin admits to falling into PR after failing as a music writer in his youth, though he did briefly edit his own fanzine Time's Up, and got one of the first ever interviews with Robert Smith of The Cure.

His hobbies are playing guitar, listening to music, contemporary history, trying to paint, cooking, literature, trying to write a novel, growing vegetables and astronomy.

He is happy to have been described recently by a client as a hippy in a suit.

Colin lives in West Sussex with his wife Hilary and has three children.

Blog Information

Intelligent, well written - as we would expect from an individual like Colin Byrne - and generally quite interesting, if slightly obssessed with his own interest area of PR.

This is a good read. We found topics such as paying for online news content discussed alongside David Cameron's presentation skills and Twitter.

The blog is well designed, has plenty of interactivity and is regularly updated. If you do politics for a living this just might be worth a read.
