According to reports, Med Hughes, Chief Constable of South Yorkshire has been caught driving at 90mph in a 60mph speed limit. Mr Hughes is also head of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Roads policing committee and an arch speed camera advocate.

Driving at 90mph in a 60mph speed limit is above the threshold at which the Magistrates Association recommend a disqualification.

Paul Smith, founder of SafeSpeed.org.uk, said: "The hypocrisy is absolutely breathtaking. Clearly Mr Hughes thinks that the rules he is so keen to enforce don't apply to him."

"The critical question is: "Was Mr Hughes causing a danger to the public?".

Given his training and position, I am quite confident that he was not. I challenge him to admit - here and now - that the speed limit cannot define the point at which a speed becomes dangerously fast."

"Mr Hughes is clearly a complete hypocrite and I demand his resignation, both from the ACPO road safety committee and from his office as Chief Constable of South Yorkshire. He has brought the entire Police service into disrepute. How can the public have confidence in such a complete buffoon?"

"Sack the clown."

"Mr Hughes should also be given a taste of his own medicine and banned from driving. No public money should pay for a chauffeur."
