Yesterday Mike Knowles, head of the Media Unit of the Campaign for an English Parliament (CEP) gave oral evidence to the Justice Committee, a select committee of the UK Government’s Justice Department. The session title was Devolution: a decade on, which focussed on “The English Question”.
Mike answered detailed and pertinent questions from the Rt. Hon Alan Beith MP, Chairman, (Liberal Democrat, Berwick-upon-Tweed), Daniel Kawczynski MP (Conservative, Shrewsbury and Atcham), the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP (Labour-Cooperative, Cardiff South and Penarth), Julie Morgan MP (Labour, Cardiff North), Virenda Sharma MP (Labour, Southall) and Dr Alan Whitehead MP (Labour, Southampton Test)
Other witnesses were the Rt Hon Kenneth Clarke QC MP (Conservative, Rushcliffe), Vernon Bogdanor CBE, FBA (Professor of Government, Oxford University) Lord Tyler of Linkinhorne, Liberal Democrat peer in the House of Lords and Peter Facey (Director of Unlock Democracy).
Scilla Cullen, Chairman of the CEP, thanks the Justice Committee for the opportunity to put the case for an English Parliament to the UK Government.
The CEP is not a political party nor does it support any political party but seeks to influence and inform. The CEP is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and funded entirely by members and subscribers. It has one aim, which is constitutional parity for England and all her people regardless of how they choose to identify themselves.
