The Prostate Cancer Charity launch fact sheet on diet

Friday, 03, Nov 2006 12:00

Commenting on the new diet information sheet Peter Loader, 59, from Chard, Somerset: said: "I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and given a prognosis of three to five years to live seven year's ago. It was a very anxious time because the tumours had already spread to my spine and shoulders which meant the medical treatment options left to me were limited.

"Besides conventional treatment I looked into every type of diet, supplement and fitness advice available in a programme of self help. Stopping red meat and dairy products was difficult as I had worked with cattle all my life, but within weeks I enjoyed much more energy and still run half marathons today.

"A simple benefit can be had by swallowing three large teaspoons of tomato puree a day which might seem a little odd but the lycopene in processed tomatoes has been shown to help. This is just one example of so many ways we can self help and give ourselves the feeling we are gaining some control over our cancer.

The Prostate Cancer Charity diet fact sheet is very well put together and is important because it can be confusing to try and work out what we should and shouldn't eat with so much advice out there. The sheet is a collection of dietary advice which is generally believed to help prostate cancer and gives tips for making a difference to your diet without being too extreme.
