Christmas comes but once a year, so why not make it extra special with a traditional farm fresh turkey forming the centrepiece of your meal. The popular NFU turkey website is making a welcome return to help consumers find a suitable bird for the festive season. It’s the third year that the NFU has launched the site www.ukturkeys.co.uk which directs shoppers to over 160 local and regional farmers who produce traditional farm fresh turkeys.
The website provides information on the different types of turkeys available and which breed would suit your family’s needs. There are also pages on how to cook the perfect roast turkey along with tips and ideas on how to use the leftovers.
Meanwhile, a choice of two ‘gobble gobble’ ringtones can also be downloaded from the website and there’s a competition to win a lovely farm fresh Bronze turkey supplied by Kelly’s Turkeys.
Vice chairman of the NFU poultry board Mike Bailey said: “You can’t beat a farm fresh turkey at Christmas. It’s the one day of the year when it’s all about tradition and a fresh turkey always tastes great. They are low on food miles and high on taste, so order yours now to guarantee delivery. The website has plenty of information on local turkey farmers supplying in your area”
NFU Online senior web editor Helen Cotterill said: “Our turkey websites have always been very popular with both the public and members alike. The vibrant graphics should appeal to our younger audience along with ringtones, jokes and farming scenes to download and colour in.
“Shoppers can find out the facts, read about how turkeys are reared, download recipes and learn about those all important cooking times. Most importantly, the site lists turkey farmers who are NFU members covering every region in England and Wales, so there’s bound to be a producer near you”.
