NSCFC: David Cameron must stand up and be counted on fathers and the need for parity in family law

Monday, 19, Feb 2007 12:00

The National Society for Children and Family Contact totally concur with the views as expressed by Families Need Fathers dated 16th Feb 2007 entitled “ David Cameron misses the point on fathers involvement”.

We for our part can only but hope that the Conservative party will not renege on its personal promise to us that they will reform family law once in office thus bringing loving fathers, grandparents and extended family members back into the lives of innocent children after separation or divorce. For far too long Government policy has been to undermine the marriage based family, fact being that according to UNICEF the traditional family unit is by far the most stable environment for children to grow up in. Failing this we must have parity in family law for not to do so is to deny all concerned their Human Right to family life as decreed in article 8 of said Act along with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. We therefore as representatives of a lost generation of children and family members call upon Mr Cameron to be much more open in public as to his promise to support the traditional family unit and all that it stands for. It is simply not good enough to say via his minister’s one thing to us in private meetings and yet another in the public domain, this we will not or cannot except.

National Society for Children and Family Contact (NSCFC) is a registered charity which believes that continuing contact with a child’s parents or extended family after separation or divorce is vital for the child’s balanced development and it works tirelessly to foster those all-important family contacts. As such we offer free support and advice to all those in need. Helpline at National rate also available 24/7. This to include support and domestic violence helpline for men.
