Podcast: Gamesmanship and the Scottish independence referendum

Friday, 13 January 2012 11:03 AM

The first massive power struggle between the Westminster and Holyrood parliaments is well and truly underway.

In our first podcast of the new year Alex Stevenson talks to SNP chief whip Stewart Hosie and former Scotland Office minister Ann McKechin about the gamesmanship we're seeing from Holyrood and Westminster - not that they'd call it that, of course.

Both sides give their take on the two main issues currently being disputed, the timing of the referendum and whether voters should be offered two or three options, before predicting what's next for the struggle.

Also in this podcast: should we give the unborn the vote? A wacky thinktank report proposes a super-jury protecting the rights of future generations. Rupert Read, of the University of East Anglia, outlines his radical proposals.
