PAT award

Thursday, 29 November 2007 12:00 AM

Chief Superintendent Patrick Stayt, the negotiating secretary of the Police Negotiating Board Staff Side Superintendents' Committee representing police officers of Superintendent and Chief Superintendent ranks in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, states:

'We have today received notification of the award of the Police Arbitration Tribunal that the pay of all police officers should be increased by 2.5 per cent with effect from 1 September, 2007.

'We are very disappointed with the award made by the tribunal as this means that the pay of officers who perform a vital and unique role in society is falling in real terms. However, we accept that due process has been followed and therefore now call on the Government to ratify and implement this award with immediate effect. To do otherwise would be a betrayal to officers and would undermine their faith in the pay negotiation machinery and the value that Government places on them.

'We will now study the tribunal decision in detail and consider its implication on future pay negotiations.'
