Unite, Britain's biggest union, has today (Thursday 14 January) welcomed the government's commitment to the next generation of aircraft carriers with contracts worth £330 million being awarded to companies across the UK.
Unite's national officer, Bernie Hamilton said:
"This is a clear commitment from the Labour Government to the Royal Navy and to thousands of skilled UK manufacturing jobs. The future aircraft carriers will be an asset to the UK, but Tory cuts could put the programme at risk, hitting highly skilled jobs and the Royal Navy.
"Unite looks forward to working constructively with the successful sub-contractors."
