Unite: Don't delete our pay and pensions - Fujitsu workers' come to Westminster

Tuesday, 26 January 2010 12:00 AM

WHEN: 10.00am, Wednesday, 27th January 2010
WHERE: Parliament Square, Westminster

Unite representatives from key Fujitsu sites around the UK will attend a parliamentary lobby on Wednesday, 27th January to highlight their jobs, pay and pensions plight to MPs.

The Fujitsu staff have been challenging up to 100 remaining compulsory redundancies expected at the firm at end of this week and a pay freeze imposed earlier this year. They are also angry at plans by the company to close the main final salary pension scheme to future accrual, reducing the total pay package of each affected employee by typically around 20 per cent.

The workers will carry placards bearing the message "Don't delete our jobs" and "Don't crash our pensions".

Peter Skyte, Unite national officer for the IT sector, said: "These workers are saying enough is enough. We're coming to Westminster to impress upon Parliament that Fujitsu should not be using cuts to employees' jobs, pay and pensions in the UK as a cash cow to boost the profits of the company worldwide.

"We urge Fujitsu now to work with us on settling this dispute in the interests of the company, the workforce and our members."

Unite has also announced that an Early Day Motion (EDM 646) has been tabled by Tony Lloyd MP in the House of Commons in support of the Fujitsu workers.

Fujitsu employs around 11,500 people in the UK. Fujitsu's main sites are at Bracknell, Stevenage, Manchester, Crewe, Belfast, Staines, Basingstoke, Wakefield, Sheffield, Solihull, Telford, Swansea, Slough, Lewes, Warrington, Cardiff, Londonderry, Bristol, Newcastle and London.
