SOE: Northern Ireland Fleet operators to benefit from free maintenance event

Monday, 25 January 2010 12:00 AM

One of the road transport industry's most respected names is coming to Belfast to assist local commercial vehicle operators more effectively manage their fleet.

Following over-subscribed events nationwide, the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) is bringing its Maintenance Assessment & Regulations Update Seminar to Ballyclare, allowing local operators to benefit from a crucial lecture and guide.

The Freight Transport Association's Tom Wilson will examine aspects of current operator licensing, and John Martin, from the Driver Vehicle Agency, will discuss the latest issues relating to operator legislation and methods of enforcement.

In addition, Lancashire County Council's Chris Grime will speak about the Maintenance Supplier Assessment Document, launched by the North West Goods Vehicle Maintenance Liaison Committee in association with the IRTE.

IRTE forms part of SOE (Society of Operations Engineers), a membership organisation with over sixty-five years' experience developing engineering professionals.

The guide is aimed at those who contract out maintenance of their fleet. It simply and effectively advises on best practice procedures to ensure workshops' maintenance facilities are adequate for the type and number of vehicles undergoing work.

IRTE Council Chairman, and Fleet Manager for Belfast City Council, Gerry Fleming will host the event. Gerry said: "Eight out of ten operators use contracted-out maintenance. However, you cannot sub-contract your responsibility for maintenance as far as the operator's licence is concerned. Our assessment allows you to audit facilities and therefore make long-term benefits."

With operators weighing up stringent controls against cost-restrictions, the Maintenance Assessment Seminar offers a simple way to find facilities suitable for your fleet.

Volkswagen introduces Fleet Package Pricing

Politics.co.uk

11 August 2003 VOLKSWAGEN COMMERCIAL VEHICLES LAUNCHES FLEET PACKAGE PRICING Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is strengthening its commitment to fleet customers by introducing Fleet Package Pricing. The aim of the scheme is to offer fleet customers a service, maintenance and repair proposition, which is consistently delivered through the national Van Centre network using a competitive and transparent pricing structure. This ensures the customer knows the maximum price they will have to pay for service work wherever they are in the country. The majority of Volkswagen's national network of Van Centres has already joined the programme, which is being launched this month. Fleet Package Pricing uses Menu Pricing and Service, Maintenance and Repair (SMR) systems to introduce a simple method of job pricing. The customer receives a quotation based on actual factory times for all service, maintenance and repair work and the manufacturer's recommended retail price for genuine Volkswagen replacement parts. The price quoted depends on which maximum labour rate band the Van Centre carrying out the repairs has agreed to. Participating Van Centres can sign up to one of five rate bands that apply to Fleet Package Pricing, ranging from £38 to £55 per hour. The maximum labour rate bands will be reviewed annually after the initial introduction period from August to December. The scheme also gives the assurance that Van Centres will do their utmost to deliver a maximum three working day lead time without alternative transport, or a five working day maximum lead time with transport. Free vehicle collection and delivery is offered within a reasonable time and distance, along with the option of a courtesy vehicle, provided free of charge, when a lead time of within five working days has been estimated. When a broken-down vehicle is recovered, the Van Centre will advise the driver and/or fleet owner of its repair status within 24 hours of its arrival. When minor service work is being carried out, such as lubrication services, Van Centres may offer a 'while-you-wait' facility. An additional benefit of Fleet Package Pricing is that customers will not be charged for fitment of certain items if they occur as part of a service job. Fleet Package Pricing underlines Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles' commitment to providing the best possible service for its fleet customers. For further information call the Commercial Vehicles Fleet Package Pricing Helpline on 0800 0130012.
