SOE: New IRTE guide champions CV fuel efficiency
Thursday, 16 September 2010 12:00 AM
"How can we be sure sellers, claiming their products save fuel and therefore money, actually meet our needs and do just that?" This is the question IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) Board Member, John Eastman, asked during the IRTE's recent fuel conference at the Motor Heritage Centre, Warwickshire".
The answer was in his hand, as the IRTE launched its latest technical guide, Improving Fuel Efficiency, to the industry at a time when the economic environment is creating a need for effective cost-saving and best-practice advice.
Improving Fuel Efficiency outlines the typical business setting where manufacturers of interventions, whether mechanical, electrical, additive or trailer design form, all claim to increase fuel economy, decrease fuel costs and in some cases, reduce exhaust emissions.
The guide provides straightforward guidance, to ensure a suitable evaluation process is in place so operators can make the right decision about which intervention is right for them.
The IRTE is a professional membership organisation with over six decades of experience in road transport. A Professional Sector of SOE (Society of Operations Engineers), IRTE is recognised as an impartial voice and its latest guide continues core aims to lead in best practice processes, raise competence and support the industry.
SOE Head of Technical Ian Chisholm said: "This guide, which was sponsored by DON-BUR and Freight Best Practice, is the product of an industry working together to meet challenges and exceed expectation."
Improving Fuel Efficiency is the latest in a suite of IRTE best practice and advisory publications aiming to assist engineering professionals throughout their career. The guides are freely available to download, for both SOE members and non-members, from www.soe.org.uk/resources. Similarly, copies can be ordered from Technical Engineering Coordinator Nick Edwards on 020 7630 1111.
