SOE: Local operators benefit as maintenance roadshow rolls into town

Wednesday, 8 April 2009 12:00 AM

One of the road transport industry's most respected names is coming to Northamptonshire to help local commercial vehicle operators manage their fleet during trying financial times.

Following an over-subscribed launch event in Preston, the IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) is bringing its Maintenance Supplier Assessment Seminar to the county, allowing local operators to benefit from a crucial lecture and guide.

IRTE forms part of SOE (Society of Operations Engineers), a membership organisation with over sixty years' experience that develops engineering professionals.

The guide is aimed at those who contract out maintenance of their fleet. It simply and effectively advises on best practice procedures to ensure workshops' maintenance facilities are adequate for the type and number of vehicles undergoing work.

IRTE Chairman Chris Grime said: "Eight out of ten operators use contracted-out maintenance. However, you cannot sub-contract your responsibility for maintenance as far as the operator's licence is concerned. Our assessment allows you to audit facilities and therefore make long-term benefits."

With operators weighing up stringent controls against cost-restrictions due to the credit crunch, the Maintenance Assessment Seminar offers a simple way to find facilities suitable for your fleet.
