Society of Operations Engineers: Green Lighting Issues Event

Wednesday, 4 November 2009 12:00 AM

This visit to the new and prestigious Thorn Lighting Academy at Spennymoor is a must for all Plant Engineers and indeed any Engineers, designers or installers, involved with buildings and highways.

The Academy is well designed with Lecture rooms, and multiple lighting layouts for both internal and external demonstrations as well as facilities for refreshments.

Demonstration areas are permanently set out for educational establishments, shops & supermarkets, hospital surgeries, offices, commercial ventures and the like, as well as street lighting for roads and highways, and external flood lighting of buildings etc. Not only can the various areas be demonstrated with all controls, but these controls can be changed at will to suit whatever are the Client's requirements. The various effects of types of lamps and fittings on colours, filters, heights above the working plane and correct lux levels are also ably demonstrated.

The Academy hold CPD's on Lighting Design and Installation and will welcome questions, providing advice on some of the 15 or so extensive courses that they organise, using the Academy, in-house facilities and on the job training.

The evening will involve a short CPD on 'green' lighting issues, a visit to each of the demonstration areas with a question and answer session afterwards, followed by a short visit around the Thorn's new Production facility on the same site.

There is ample free parking and refreshments available on arrival so there is no excuse for non-attendance. We hope to see you there!

Registration from 17:45, event to commence at 18:15

Chief executive of Rio Tinto Tom Albanese said “We had a solid first quarter with increased production of iron ore, coal, bauxite, alumina and titanium dioxide compared with the first quarter of 2011. This was driven by a combination of our consistently high operating performance and reduced impact from severe weather than in 2011. We were therefore well positioned for the relatively strong markets in the first quarter, albeit with continued volatility as we anticipated.” Read more here.
