RHA tells Treasury "Enough is enough"

Tuesday, 16 February 2010 12:00 AM

RHA Chief Executive Geoff Dunning, together with Director of Policy Jack Semple, met Sarah McCarthy-Fry, Treasury Minister to discuss the forthcoming budget.

"We were there to discuss the transport industry and I was able to lay our cards firmly on the table and tell those present that, as far as fuel duty is concerned, enough really IS enough", said Geoff Dunning.

"UK hauliers have seen rises in fuel duty that have amounted to 16% in less than two years, a burden not shared with any other activity in the economy, and we now want to see a clear distinction between the ways in which trucks and cars are taxed.

Fuel duty dominated the discussion but the opportunity was taken to stress the need to maintain investment in our road infrastructure in respect of both maintenance, which is particularly important after the recent cold weather and, developing the network to improve reliability of journey times.

The RHA also expressed concern about any potential reduction in VOSA's enforcement funding.
