Rethink: Marsh Christian Award for Mental Health

The Marsh Christian Trust has worked with Rethink for a number of years to reward professionals working in the field of mental health. The 2011 award seeks to reward a leading academic for outstanding mental health research.

The award will be given for an academic leading a research programme or range of research projects which have directly improved the lives of people affected by severe mental illness.

We are looking for nominations of researchers who have been instrumental in conducting innovative research, that has had a positive impact on one or both of the following areas:

  • the lives of people with severe mental illness

  • the lives of families of people with severe mental illness.

  • All applications are screened by the Rethink research panel and the winner is announced at Rethink's National Member's Day on 12th November 2011 and a cheque for £1000 to be awarded to the successful individual.


How to enter nominations

The Marsh Christian Award is open to either self-nomination or peer nomination. Please fill in the online entry form here. Please note, the deadline for submissions has been extended to Friday 2nd September 2011.

Professor Julian Leff - 2010 winner

For the first time, the Marsh Christian Award for Mental Health Work 2010 focused on celebrating outstanding mental health research. We were delighted Professor Julian Leff, Emeritus Professor at the Institute of Psychiatry was given this award. His long and outstanding career has impacted significantly on the lives of people affected by severe mental illness. Key impacts have included shaping national policy for the treatment of schizophrenia, by evidencing the crucial role of family therapy in reducing rates of relapse and supporting recovery.
