Virgin Trains has teamed up with mobile telephone operator T-Mobile to provide improved Wireless Broadband (Wi-Fi) in all of its First Class lounges. The facility is available free to all customers using the First Class lounges. The service is available to all First Class customers with WiFi-enabled Laptops and PDAs, and not just T-Mobile users.
The scheme to upgrade the Wi-Fi links, means that customers using the First Class Lounges at London Euston, Coventry, Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester Piccadilly can now access the internet whilst they wait for their train.
The Wireless Broadband facility is also available in the new First Class lounges, which opened last month, at Runcorn station and is due to open later this month at Birmingham International.
Virgin Trains New Product Development Manager Victoria Mawson said: "We know that our First Class customers value the ability to work onboard our trains and in our First Class Lounges. That is why we have upgraded the Wireless Broadband facility in our Lounges. We also intend to roll out Wireless Broadband across our trains and routes starting later this year."
Virgin Trains is also improving the mobile phone reception onboard its trains. The upgraded trains provide the same level of reception inside the train, as is available outside. The first Sixteen upgraded trains are already in service and will soon be easily identifiable by special labels on the mobile phone and laptop charging points.
