The Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) is hosting a stand at Infrarail 2008, offering rail apprentices and employees with NVQ Level-3 qualifications a direct route to professional recognition.

SOE, an organisation representing around 17,000 engineering professionals, is driving forward the Engineering Technician (EngTech) status nationally after topping the Engineering Council UK (ECUK) tables for the second year running.

Infrarail, to be held at Birmingham’s NEC on 11-13 March, is now in its fourteenth year and is the event for those involved in the railway infrastructure industry.

SOE’s professional sector, IPlantE (Institution of Plant Engineers), is following a hugely successful 2007 after supporting various high-profile rail events. These include the Cooling the Tube event, held jointly with Transport for London, and sponsoring the Rail Engineer of the Year award at the RailStaff Awards in October.

Will Reeves, Membership Development Manager said: ‘We are committed to those not currently represented in the rail industry, especially those at EngTech level. We believe that all engineers should gain the professional recognition that they deserve from their peers, industry and society as a whole.’

Through a flexible Continuous Professional Development (CPD) plan, SOE assists members throughout their engineering career, from EngTech and IEng status, all the way to CEng.

At Infrarail, SOE intend to continue their work in furthering the recognition of rail professionals, by welcoming those employed within the industry into membership.
