The Road Haulage Association has met with Transport for London to discuss the plight of hauliers who, through no fault of their own are still waiting for the supply equipment necessary to make their vehicles compliant with the requirements of the London Low Emission Zone.
The RHA are hoping to persuade TfL to waive the daily charge for companies who have ordered the necessary equipment, as opposed to imposing the daily charge, which companies may or may not be able to reclaim as and when their vehicles are made compliant.
The RHA met with TfL today to discuss the plight of hauliers who through no fault of their own are still waiting for the supply of equipment necessary to make their vehicles compliant with London Emission Zone requirements. The RHA went to TfL with detailed documented evidence from a range of members who were concerned they would still be operating non-compliant vehicles within the LEZ after the expiry of their 28 day warning letter.
TfL have advised that following their discussions with manufacturers of particulate exhaust equipment, "a small minority" of companies are still waiting for the supply and fitment of equipment. On this basis operators will need to pay the daily charge if operating non-compliant vehicles within the zone.
It was confirmed that all claims from operators who have attempted to comply in a timely manner will be treated sympathetically regarding their claims for a refund of any charges once their vehicles are compliant. Operators concerned about refunds should contact the TfL call centre on 0845 6070009 to discuss their concerns.
Steve Biddle Head of Technical Services for the RHA advises operators to pay the daily charge where applicable as opposed to facing penalty charges during the interim period.
