SCP: "Labour simply hasn't listened", say Seniors
Tuesday, 06 May 2008 08:38
"The Labour Party fully deserves this defeat because for years now they have refused to listen to the voters", says the Senior Citizens Party (
www.seniorcitizensparty.org.uk) which represents over 20 million Seniors age 50 or over who make up 43% of the voting population. Despite constant reminders Gordon Brown has refused to restore the link between pensions and earnings, he has refused to reform the unfair council tax, which has doubled under Labour, and which nearly half the population doesn't pay anyway, he has deliberately destroyed the pension industry so that two-thirds of the final salary schemes which protect pensioners from poverty have been scrapped, he has deliberately raised the cost of food, all of which has to be transported by road, by imposing a much higher rate of tax on petrol and diesel than any other country in Europe, he has destroyed the traditional British family by providing financial incentives for single-parent families and claiming that cohabitation and same-sex partnerships are just as good as traditional marriages, so that we now have the highest rate of divorce and teenage pregnancy in Europe, he has created the "Why bother" generation for whom work is not an option because they are better off on benefits, he has refused to build enough prisons so dangerous criminals are released early to rape and murder again, and he sends people to their death by denying them the lifesaving drugs that are freely available in other countries.
"To hear Gordon Brown say on nationwide television 'My job is to listen' is surely the epitome of hypocrisy," says Grahame Leon-Smith, Party Leader of the Senior Citizens Party. "He has not listened to the needs and concerns of ordinary people, least of all the Seniors, who are the largest demographic group in the country, for the last ten years, so it really is about time he started !"
