SOE: The writing on the road

Wednesday, 16 Apr 2008 17:40
The IRTE (Institute of Road Transport Engineers) is proud to announce the publication of its latest technical guide:

‘A Best Practice Guide towards Tachograph Systems Compliance’

Authored by Gordon J F Humphreys, a leading industry expert with over twenty years experience, the purpose of the IRTE’s new guide is to outline what an operator’s tachograph systems should include in order to protect their Operator’s Licence.

The guide, sponsored by Stoneridge Electronics Ltd, provides authoritative advice on how to meet Court and Traffic Commissioner expectations and, therefore, avoid the increasing threat of litigation.

IRTE member Gordon Humphreys is a Senior Tachograph Consultant for Foster Tachographs. He is recognised as a leading expert in the forensic analysis of tachograph charts, EC Driver’s Hours and Tachograph Regulations, Road Transport Working Time Regulations and Tachograph Systems Compliance.

Gordon said:

“Having dealt with many Public Inquiries and high profile cases involving corporate manslaughter and conspiracy, there appears to be a misunderstanding by the transport industry of what is expected of them for full compliance within the Law.

“This guide is designed to hopefully fill those gaps so, with proper procedures, the majority of operators can run their business without fear of prosecution.”

A partner in the CV Show, the IRTE is a professional membership organisation with over six decades of road transport industry experience. The IRTE is one of the most respected names in UK transport and recognised as an impartial voice of the industry.

Head of Technical Services, Ian Chisholm, said:

“This guide is the seventh technical guide the IRTE has produced for the benefit of the entire road transport industry.”

Guide sponsor, Stoneridge Electronics Ltd, is an international provider of products, services and expertise within the commercial vehicle aftermarket.

UK Aftermarket Sales Manager Bob Greig said:

“Stoneridge are proud to support the IRTE in the production of this Tachograph Guide.

“With three decades of experience in providing tachographs to the industry, Stoneridge understands the challenges operators and drivers face in today's legislative environment and we believe that this guide will be an invaluable tool in helping them navigate the requirements of digital tachographs.”
