SCP: Scrap the rip-off Britain fuel prices
Wednesday, 28 May 2008 17:27
"The ludicrously high fuel prices in the UK are crippling the motorist and deliberately increasing the cost of living," says the Senior Citizens Party (
www.seniorcitizensparty.org.uk). The Government pretends that this is all due to the increased price of crude oil, but in fact nothing could be further from the truth. In France, which pays the same price for crude oil as the UK, unleaded petrol still costs only 1.42€ and diesel is even cheaper at 1.41€. Party Leader, Grahame Leon-Smith commented: "Even given the fact that Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling's mismanagement of the economy has caused the pound to fall by15% against the euro in the last six months, the equivalent UK prices today would be £1.12 for unleaded and £1.11 for diesel (and six months ago the price in France was well under £1 per litre).
Yes, diesel is still cheaper than petrol in France, so why is it so much more expensive in the UK ? Why do our truck drivers have to pay up to £1.40 per litre - yes pounds not euros ! - thus deliberately forcing up the cost of living, since all food and other goods in the shops has to be transported by road ? Experts say that the UK fuel tax could be reduced by 12p per litre and still generate the same revenue as it did six months ago. Immediately after the Crewe by-election result Gordon Brown came on television and said to everyone: "My job is to listen." LET HIM LISTEN AND STOP RIPPING-OFF THE LONG-SUFFERING BRITISH PUBLIC WITH HIS PROHIBITIVE RATE OF FUEL TAX IN THE UK !
