Wednesday, 02 Jul 2008 12:32
Welcoming the news that the Police Minister plans to repeal legislation allowing civilians to replace custody sergeants, Ian Johnston, President of the Police Superintendents’ Association, said:
‘We were encouraged to hear the Minister’s announcement that he believes police officers should retain the role of custody sergeants.
‘This is a key position within the Police Service and we have been keen supporters of ensuring the role is performed by an officer.
‘Tony McNulty’s proposed course of action shows he has listened to genuine concerns and is to be welcomed by the Service and public alike.’
