The Deputy Minister for Social Services, Gwenda Thomas AM, today launched the call for entries for national awards that will help transform social care services across Wales.
The 2009 Social Care Accolades will reward outstanding examples of how social care across Wales has been improved through investment in learning and development.
The Minister urged teams and organisations to submit entries for the biennial awards which will be held for the third time next June.
Speaking at the Care Council for Wales stand at the National Eisteddfod, the Deputy Minister for Social Services said: "The Accolades are a wonderful opportunity to recognise the successes and celebrate the positive benefits and differences we can make to people who need our care and support.
"It's an opportunity for people to shout about their work and to be recognised on a national stage. Their work also helps raise standards in social care as the Accolades allow them to highlight and share their success with their colleagues across Wales. Winning an Accolade will give individuals, teams and organisations a real boost and play a key part in raising the confidence of the whole sector."
Rhian Huws Williams, the Care Council's Chief Executive said, "Entries for the Accolades in 2007 were high-quality and showed just how much is being invested in learning and development to improve the wide range of social care services for those who use them. This time, we are looking forward to another excellent batch of entries and we urge social care workers across Wales to take the opportunity to show off their successes by submitting their entries by the closing date of 2 February 2009."
The Social Care Accolades are led by the Care Council for Wales in partnership with ADSS Wales, BASW Wales, CSSIW, Care Forum Wales, WCVA and WLGA.
