The third meeting of the UK-Saudi Two Kingdoms Conference, which took place on 29 October 2007 at Lancaster House, London, saw the inauguration of the UK-Saudi Youth Forum, which was co-organised by the British Youth Council.

The Youth Forum, which brought together a group of young Britons and Saudis for two days to discuss the common challenges that young people face in both their countries; how to promote tolerance and counter extremist views; as well as how to ensure that young people can make a positive contribution in their society.

Speaking on behalf of the Youth Forum, Tom Le Feuvre, a trustee of the British Youth Council, and Lama Feher Alsharif, a Management Information Systems student at Dar Alhekma College, presented their conclusions to delegates at the Two Kingdoms Conference.

Tom Le Feuvre called for ‘young people to be given a greater stake in both societies, with real and meaningful opportunities to participate.’

Recommendations were made for more positive images of young people, more open debate and youth-led initiatives. Inter-cultural and skills exchanges were promoted as a way to develop greater dialogue and understanding between the two countries.

It is hoped that the next meeting of the Youth Forum will take place in Riyadh in the next six months.
