GoSkills: Driver CPC: Continuing to inform
Tuesday, 29 Apr 2008 14:10
Scotland is the location for latest GoSkills PCV driver CPC briefing.
Bus and Coach Operators in Scotland are invited to attend an information briefing on the introduction of the PCV Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC)1 – hosted by
GoSkills, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for Passenger Transport – which is taking place at the
King Robert Hotel, Bannockburn, Stirling, on
Monday 12 May 2008 from
1.30 to 3.30pm.
John Smith,
GoSkills’ PCV Driver Training Adviser, said:
“In addition to a presentation on the details of the Driver CPC and the current position on implementation, GoSkills will also be launching guidance materials for CPC Advisers which have been produced as a result of the Experience Counts2 research project.”
The benefits of the PCV Driver CPC will be improvements in the overall quality of employees available to the bus and coach industries, an increase in road safety as well as the promotion of a more professional image, attracting more people to drive buses and coaches for a living.
GoSkills is planning further CPC information briefings in the East Midlands on 5 June, Southampton on 11 June, and in North Wales on 10 July. All briefings are
free and open to potential training providers and all operators regardless of CPT or
GoSkills membership.
If you would like to attend the event in Scotland please contact Ann Bubbear on 07841 050 361 or email: ann.bubbear@goskills.org.

Notes to Editors:
1. The EU Directive that introduces the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) comes into force across all European Union member states on 10 September 2008 for bus and coach drivers. In future, just holding a vocational driving licence will not be sufficient for someone who wishes to drive such vehicles for a living. Employers will have a responsibility to ensure all the drivers they employ hold the correct certificate and licence.
2.
Experience Counts is a Scottish Government programme which provides funding for projects that support learning for older workers. As part of this programme,
GoSkills is working with employers on professional development for older drivers in the Bus and Coach industries ahead of the introduction of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) in September 2008.
