3M introduces fines and fees option for SelfCheck systems.

Diversified technology company 3M has developed “Self-Pay” - a new payment solution that enables library users to pay fines and fees at a 3M SelfCheck station.
Designed to integrate with all V-Series, R-Series and B-Series SelfCheck systems from 3M, the user-friendly self-pay system is available as a cash payment system that accepts coins and dispenses change.
Carla O’Brien from 3M’s Library Systems Division explains, “Our new fines and fees option is designed to meet the growing demand for automated payment facilities by library users, and improve the efficiency of revenue collection for library managers. When books are issued via the SelfCheck system the software will, when applicable, automate a fine or fee request. The system allows customers to issue their books and make payments quickly and easily, and frees up librarians to spend time on more productive activities such as book promotions, presentations, events and helping customers. The SelfCheck system with Self-pay option can be installed within the library, in an accessible out-of-hours lobby, or even within a hole-in-the-wall.”
Introduced more than 15 years ago, 3M SelfCheck Systems pioneered the field of automated library collection management and circulation functions. These systems employ RFID technology and/or barcodes to process the checkout and return of collection items. With the advent of the new self-pay option, the application of RFID technology for critical library functions has become more productive and user-friendly than ever before. 3M – a leading supplier of technology solutions to libraries for more than 35 years - offers a wide range of options to suit all libraries, including RFID systems, Self-Check systems, Tattle Tape Security Strips and applications, detection systems and circulation accessories.
